| Mike Appel, Government Sales Representative, was in Bath, Maine this weekend
representing JGB at the General Dynamics Bath Iron Works Facility, for the christening of the U.S.S. Momsen.
Bath Iron Works is the lead designer and builder of the ARLEIGH BURKE Class
AEGIS guided missile destroyer, the most technologically advanced surface combatant
in the world. JGB provides a variety of hoses to Bath Iron Works for these
ships during their construction.
The U.S.S. Momsen is named to honor Navy Vice Admiral Charles Bowers “Swede” Momsen
who was a Navy diver. As a Lieutenant, he rescued 33 crewmembers and then led
the salvage of submarine USS SQUALUS after she sank in 240 feet of water in
May 1939. He received a commendation from President Franklin D. Roosevelt for
these actions. Lieutenant Momsen also designed the “Momsen Lung,” a
submarine escape breathing apparatus. Evelyn Momsen Hailey christened the ship
named for her father. |
