Explaining Fast Track 50
Fast Track 50 is a program designed to recognize the 50 fastest-growing companies
in Central New York . The criteria are simple: Be an independent, for-profit,
privately or publicly owned company; be headquartered or have a large presence
in Central New York ; and have a four-year operating history.
We then added together each corporation's revenue and employment growth, weighting
sales over employment by a factor of two to one. To get this data, The Business
Journal and its media partners first solicited nominations from the business
community. We then requested the accounting firm of Fust Charles Chambers LLP
to review four years of financials, enter the responses, and calculate the
percentage of growth.
The Business Journal recognizes the Fast Track 50 winners through
distribution of over 16,000 copies of a special publication containing their
company profiles and a detailed list in descending order of their growth. To
be fair, the companies were divided into two groups — those with more than
$10 million in annual revenue and those with less than $10 million. Further,
we recognize these stellar performers at a luncheon on Dec. 6, where each will
receive well-deserved accolades before hundreds of members of the business
community.
Why is Fast Track 50 important? These companies are the collective engine
that's pulling the area's economy. Despite the unfriendly business climate
in New York State , these 50 aggressive companies continue to invest and expand.
They serve as positive corporate models for the rest of us. These are the companies
to watch.
The winners represent the diverse economy we find in Central New York . They
include banks, high-tech companies, and old-line manufacturers. Add to this
list retailers, advertising agencies, health-care providers, law firms, and
engineering firms.
That's why it's important to recognize Fast Track 50. We all need to applaud
those who are leading the way to our economic prosperity.
None of this, however, would have been possible without the help of our sponsors —HSBC;
Fust Charles Chambers; and Scolaro, Shulman, Cohen, Fetter & Burstein — who
all deserve praise for stepping up to the plate financially, because they recognize
the contribution made by the area's fastest-growing companies and want to cheer
on their efforts.
Join the hundreds who have already signed up for the luncheon on Dec. 6 to
applaud the Fast Track 50.
And if you didn't submit a nomination this year, you'll get another chance
in 2007.
